Brand New Vessel for Smales!
As part of our pledge to source the finest quality Frozen At Sea fillets from only the most responsible and credible suppliers, we are pleased to announce that we will be receiving our first consignment of Cod & Haddock this week from the new Ocean Trawlers vessel – The Bukhta Naezdnik.
The Bukhta Naezdnik is the latest addition to the Ocean Trawlers fleet of filleting trawlers and is a sister vessel to the Nordkap, which started producing fillets for Smales a year ago. Originally built in 1991 in Norway, the Bukhta Naezdnik and the Nordkap were actually amongst a series of 20 vessels of the same type which were built at Sterkoder shipyard in the early 1990´s. Sterkoder vessels are well known in the industry and they have had a good track record for being reliable and efficient frozen at sea trawlers. Sterkoder trawlers can currently be found in the fleets of Russia, Norway, Iceland and Germany.
The Bukhta Naezdnik is a 64 metre long and 13 metre wide trawler equipped with a 3300 brake horse power main engine and was acquired in 2009 to fish under the Ocean Trawlers brand. By the end of 2010 the trawler was rebuilt with a state of the art fish processing factory and will be focusing on producing high quality skinless and boneless cod and haddock fillets and is also equipped to produce loins and portions. The vessel has already been certified by the MSC (Marine Stewardship Council) which underlines Ocean Trawlers commitment to responsible and sustainable fisheries.
In the United Kingdom, Frozen At Sea Cod & Haddock fillets from the Bukhta Naezdnik will be available exclusively from Smales – continuing the strong trading links between the UK's leading supplier of Frozen At Sea fillets and the world’s largest supplier of Cod and Haddock from the North Atlantic.
